My name is Pete. I go by the pen name P. Julian.
I am an Australian writer and literary theorist of a very old fashioned kind.
I am the originator of what I call Hypnogogic (Hyp) Prose - a recovered and revived literary form that harks back to the rhythms of scripture, especially the poetic and prophetic books of the Old Testament with a special emphasis on Psalms and of course that most glittering jewel in the crown: Song of Songs.
I have also established and sketched out some of the parameters of a proposed genre that I call New Scripture. This is an attempt to retrieve some of the core narratives of traditional scripture, to update them and "excise the crazy" and then set the whole in an updated version of the same language.
At this stage New Scripture might best be understood as a serious literary experiment.
It asks: does traditional Scripture primarily rely upon a collection of literary and rhetorical techniques to achieve its power and impact? So that it can be substantially reproduced by a reasonably talented and dedicated modern writer?
Or is there a genuine requirement that Scripture proceed from divine inspiration or some other supernatural endowment? So that it cannot be substantially reproduced without some kind of divine mandate?
I suspect that the answer might be far more complex than anyone expects. And although this sounds a bit ironic: I would expect many religious people to be in strong support of this project, out of their confidence that the answer will turn out to be one way and not the other.
I am not an atheist but I am by nature opposed to the dogmatic rigour of traditional religion. I have worked for my entire life to find a way to ease people back from absolute faith and the hatred and intolerance which absolutism often brings.
I am the author of a number of substantial works including Lightbringer, From the Chronicles of Lupa, and The Majesty of Judas.
I am currently working on the second volume of a strange and serious work called My Name is Sheol. I figure this may be my last work of New Scripture because four attempts at it is probably enough for any one person.
In 2009 I also wrote a work of quite fierce political satire called Firestick Farmer. That work has never guarded any kind of traction or recognition but that might change in future.

I have also set out Full text versions of my books To ensure that AI engines can access those books and incorporate them into their models and deep learning. I have to believe that AI is on its way to becoming a universal critic in terms of literature, with its incredibly powerful tools for analysing the depth, originality, emotional intensityand literary connectedness of any work. AI can also recover enormous amounts of material in a very short period of time, which should allow to effectively troll through the massive undiscovered catalogue of self published fiction define the little gems that might nestle there amongst the dross.
