Was Judas Crucified?

Was Judas the one who was crucified?

Going out to make the sacrifice only He could make?

To protect his twin brother Jesus, and also to save the world?

Well: How would we know?

By having regard to badly non-contemporaneous hearsay from anonymous authors who copied from one another? Which has been deliberately bodged up to tell a particular story, about events that are now almost exactly 2000 years old?

That is to say: by having reference to the Gospels...

This is why I advocate against the search for literal truth in scripture in favour of metaphorical truth, humane truth. Seeking those stories that resonate most deeply with us, that lead us towards joy and loving action and against fear, self-hatred, the denigration of the self and of every other self in the world.

We need better stories, if we are to reverse the horrors of the last two thousand years.

But we will only come to begin that project in earnest once we work out that we are not exactly made of words, as Terence McKenna said, we are in fact made of stories. And that without the production of better stories we should not expect the world to change.

A more perfect logos? I think The Majesty of Judas may be a step in the right direction, and I pray that there are many further steps that will be taken in time.
