No Words Necessary, to Open the Petals of the Heart

Jesse went to say other things but as he looked at Ruby he saw the petals of her heart open out towards him, showing him that words were now completely unnecessary.
No words necessary, to open the petals of the Heart

It's a challenge to write a blog post about a scene where words become unnecessary. But in fact it's only explanations that are surplus to requirements, in a love scene where even that love is "shaped and strewn with newly improvised words of love, some spoken and some remaining unspoken".

I have long believed that works of art should be left to speak for themselves, following the honoured principle that even lawyers understand: res ipsa loquitur. And so I might just provide a little context for the quote, and then just leave it to speak.

"Jesse went to say other things but as he looked at Ruby he saw the petals of her heart open out towards him, showing him that words were now completely unnecessary. He had pondered as he ran what he might plead, if she would give him that opportunity, knowing that what he had done to Ruby was never done against her, that his actions had been to protect her even though he had been insane. But these truths were written on his heart and in his wet hair and on each one of his mismatched shoes, and he knew as he stood there that Ruby understood everything and accepted everything, and that there was no need for him to explain anything anymore."
